Assistance with the Cost of Installation:
Homecharge Scheme (OZEV Grant)
The UK Government is encouraging all drivers to switch to electric and hybrid vehicles in order to meet their emission goals and sales of petrol/diesel cars are planned to cease in 2030, so they are offering a grant to car owners who want to install a charging point.
The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) provides grant funding of up to £350.00 towards the cost of installing a electric vehicle chargepoint at your home.
As an OLEV-approved installer, the REG will apply for this grant on your behalf and pass this saving directly to you, reducing your installation costs accordingly when awarded.
Elegibility for the Grant
At the Fone Alarm Group, we install charging points for homeowners nationwide.
Grant eligiblity requires that:
- you need to be the homeowner or have specific permission from your landlord for the EV charging point installation.
- Your home also needs to have access to legal off-street parking where the charger can be securely installed.
- The Ev charging point must be on the approved list.
- The installer must be on the approved list.
How does it work?
The majority of homes utilise a single phase 230V supply and as such can currently support the following chargers:
• 3kW Slow (3 pin plug)
• 7kW Fast (home charger)
Residential Ev chargers are commonly wall mounted and supplied directly by a 6mm cable from the fuse box/consumer unit, on their own dedicated circuit.
Here at the Fone Alarm Group however we can also provide for the design and installation of your EV charger at your preferred location undertaking any additional works required.
Cost of Ev Charging?
Energy suppliers are offering a range of EV tariffs with money saving incentives; primarily these are scheduled charging schemes where the vehicle is placed on charge during specific periods such as, midnight and 6am, when the EV charger would use the lowest tariff of electricity. You would need to have a smart meter installed at your property to take full advantage of this.
The RAC estimates that to fully charge an electric car at home costs around £5 and to charge an EV to 80% at a public rapid charger (the level you normally would here) it costs around £7 to £10 (RAC).
Type of Ev Charger?
Whilst there are many different models of charger dependent on the manufacturer their are two predominant types: tethered and un-tethered.
The vast majority of owners go for tethered, which has a built in charging lead, providing flexibility and convenice. It also has the added advantage of allowing you to keep the charging lead that comes with your car in the boot to be used when you are away from home.
It really is a matter of personal choice and at Fone Alarm Group we are able to provide for that.
